DR. MARTINS X KEITH HARING COLLABORATION
Keith Haring was a New York artist, heavy influenced by 1980s American street culture. Starting out as a graffitist in New York subways, he soon gained public recognition in the 1990s going onto commission large scale murals. His artwork had undertones of socio-political activism and were a commentary on important social issues at the time including AIDs awareness, anti-racial segregation and the cocaine epidemic. He dedicated his life to fighting for the oppressed and his impact is still seen in the community today.
Dr. Martens has unveiled a new collaboration featuring a selection of Haringâs famous illustrations celebrating his work. This dress shoe features Haring’s ‘The Radiant Baby‘ in red on the left shoe and ‘The Angle’ in white on the right. The Radiant Baby is one of Haringâs main tags and symbolises youthful innocence, purity, goodness and potential. The Angle is an example of Haring’s many religious motifs and comments on the idea of heaven and hell representing his fascination with spirituality.
